We will work with parents interested in moving their child from the traditional school setting into distance learning. Placement will depend on the number of spaces available. Once moved out of traditional school into distance learning we kindly ask that the placement be for the remainder of the school year.
We are asking parents to make a yearlong commitment to distance learning due to the impact on staffing. Teachers will be identified as distance learning teachers and if students are moving in and out of distance learning the impact to teacher assignments is impracticable.
Your child will not lose their spot at their traditional school this includes Jefferson Academy; however, for this school year (2020-2021) no spots will be guaranteed at any HESD school site as we’ll be staffing teachers based on the number of students attending traditional school and the numbers attending distance learning. Therefore, available traditional school spots will be limited.
All students will default back to their original school site for the 2021-2022 school year.
California’s Governor has issued a mandate requiring masks in public, masks are required for staff and students. There will be times the students can remove their masks such as on breaks where 6 or more feet of distance is being maintained or if a lesson is conducted outside allowing students to physically distance.
Per the Kings County Department of Public Health all youth sports are cancelled until further notice (July 9th Press Release). HESD will be following the direction of the KCDPH and if their direction changes, HESD evaluate the safest steps to take.
Students will be rostered, so the same group of students move together throughout the day. Students in a class will attend a Math/Science class together and then they will move to an ELA/Social Studies class together. In the afternoon, they will rotate back to their Core 1 and Core 2 teachers for the last two periods of the day. The teachers will do a variety of enrichment activities/units with students. Students won’t have traditional electives.
Students will be pulled as a cohort class for PE and not mixed with other classes. Students will not dress-out for PE during the 2020-2021 school year.
Breaks and Lunch will be staggered, and cohort groups will be assigned sections of the campus, so they can hang out together! See the Junior High School schedule posted below.
